My Family is Being Murdered. What do I do?

If my family in Texas was being driven from their home, starved, and murdered, there is no question what I would do.

I would board the next flight to DFW, run to the aid of my family, and fight to the death to protect everyone with the last name Greer.

The truth is, I would board that flight and run to their defense for much less than eviction and murder. Much, much less.

So what do I do when my family in Iraq is being chased into the dessert, starved, beaten and possibly shot or beheaded because they are Christians?

What do we do?

Type “Iraq Christians” into a google search and the page is flooded with a hundred headlines about the killing in Iraq. ISIS (Islamic State of Iraq and Syria) is evicting, and/or murdering anyone who does not convert to their fascist and totalitarian version of Islam.

And so far, it includes no one with the last name Greer, but many, many people who claim the name of Jesus Christ. Just like I do.

And that is my point.

Our brothers and sisters – our family – are being murdered in the streets in Iraq.

And what are doing about it? Praying?

And is that enough?

This is not a rhetorical question, and I’m not filing a veiled complaint that other people are not doing enough to help.

I am literally and specifically asking, What do I do? What do we do? What can the family of God do to help? What SHOULD we be doing?

If you know of aid organizations, lobbyists, or missionaries in Iraq with whom we can learn from, support, and yes – HELP – tell us who they are and what we can do. I want to help. I just don’t know the best way.

Lord Jesus, I want to “Learn to do right; seek justice. Defend the oppressed. Take up the cause of the fatherless; plead the case of the widow.” (Isaiah 1:17) but I don’t know how.
